The horror franchise that redefined supernatural cinema is preparing for its final chapter. The Conjuring: Last Rites has just released its first official teaser, and it looks like the main saga is going out with a scream.

Warner Bros. has unveiled the chilling preview for what will be the last film in the core series that started it all. While the extended Conjuring Universe has given horror fans thrills through Annabelle, The Nun, and La Llorona, it’s the heart of the story—Ed and Lorraine Warren’s terrifying journey—that has kept the spine of the franchise strong for over a decade. And now, with Last Rites, their journey comes to an end.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as the beloved paranormal investigators for one final confrontation with the forces of evil. The teaser is loaded with everything that has made the franchise iconic: haunted relics, spine-tingling hallucinations, demonic entities lurking in the shadows, and a creeping dread that never quite lets up. It’s a visual punch of everything the Conjuring franchise does best.

The official synopsis reads: “Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on one last terrifying case involving mysterious entities they must confront.” But if the trailer is any indication, this isn’t just any case—it’s their most intense and emotionally taxing yet.

Joining Wilson and Farmiga are Mia Tomlinson as the Warrens’ daughter Judy, and Ben Hardy as Judy’s boyfriend, Tony Spera. Directed by The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’s Michael Chaves, Last Rites benefits from the familiar touch of the franchise’s original creators, James Wan and Peter Safran, who return as producers to close this chapter with the same eerie flair that started it all.

For Farmiga and Wilson, this isn’t just another sequel. It’s farewell. A powerful, exhausting, and heartfelt farewell. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Farmiga opened up about the emotional toll of saying goodbye: “It is the end of the road. It’s got to be the end of the road,” she said. “What Last Rites demanded of us physically, emotionally, mentally, stamina-wise… It’s been a long haul, man. It’s been a really, really long haul, but it’s time. It is time to trade her clairvoyance in for crossword puzzles. She’s going to take up some tai chi. They’re going to Turks and Caicos, baby, and so am I.”

There’s an air of finality in her words, but also a celebration of everything the Warrens have given to the genre. It’s rare for a horror series to maintain this level of consistency, heart, and mythos through multiple entries—but The Conjuring has pulled it off.

Producer Peter Safran added his own reflection: “It’s the end of the story with Patrick and Vera as Ed and Lorraine. It doesn’t rule out opportunities to do things down the line… but I feel like The Conjuring is still a great playground.”

James Wan echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that Last Rites was designed as a true ending: “It really is putting a closure to the story, to the characters that we started with ‘Conjuring 1.’ Whatever phases that might be in the future, this is the one that we just want to be able to wrap up in the right way.”

And with the trailer now out in the world, one thing is clear: The Conjuring: Last Rites isn’t just the conclusion to the Warrens’ story—it’s a sendoff designed to haunt us long after the credits roll.
