MANILA – BINI, the nation’s beloved P-Pop girl group, is set to make waves on the international stage as they prepare to perform at KCON LA 2024. This historic event marks a significant milestone for BINI as they become the first P-Pop group to grace the prestigious KCON stage, a three-day concert and convention that celebrates the biggest and brightest stars in K-pop.

Exciting Journey to Los Angeles
The journey to Los Angeles began early Friday morning for the first five members of BINI: Maloi, Colet, Gwen, Stacey, and Aiah. According to an article from ABS-CBN, due to heavy rains and bad weather conditions, their original flight schedule had to be adjusted, causing them to be split into two batches. Jho, Sheena, and Mikha will depart later the same afternoon.

“We’re super excited because it’s been a while since we’ve been back to the US, and now we finally get to go back,” Maloi shared with palpable enthusiasm. “Performing at KCON has always been one of our dreams, and now it’s coming true.”
Gwen explained the logistical challenges they faced, stating, “Our original flight was scheduled for the early morning of July 25, but we had to be rebooked due to the weather. It was a bit of a hassle, but we’re all just happy to be on our way.”
A Star-Studded Event
BINI’s first stop is the KCON USA 2024 Pre-show, scheduled for Saturday, July 27. They are set to perform on the “M Countdown” stage, sharing the spotlight with some of the biggest names in K-pop. In addition to their performance, BINI will participate in a special panel, “Meet the Rising Stars: BINI,” the following day. This panel offers fans a unique opportunity to engage with the group and learn more about their journey and experiences.

Lai Frances, a Filipino-American journalist and KCON LA moderator, played a pivotal role in securing BINI’s place at KCON. An article from Inquirer highlights that BINI was initially invited as panelists to discuss the intersection of K-pop and P-pop, but extensive discussions eventually led to their inclusion as pre-show performers.
“I want the best for BINI,” Frances said. “It felt like everything fell into place. They deserve to experience KCON not just as performers but also as guests and attendees. This exposure can ignite their spirits and inspire them further.”
A Dream Come True
Stacey expressed the group’s excitement about meeting their fans, known as “blooms,” in Canada and the US. “We’re thrilled to see our Canadian blooms in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Toronto. And of course, we’re excited for ASAP in California to meet our US blooms.”
Colet added, “This will be our first time performing in Canada. We’re bringing the BINIverse to our fans there, and we can’t wait to share our music with them.”

Aiah is especially looking forward to reconnecting with relatives in Canada. “I have family there that I haven’t seen in a long time, so this trip is extra special for me.”
Beyond the performances, the girls have some fun plans lined up as well. “We’re going to Disneyland in LA!” Maloi exclaimed, highlighting the balance of work and play that makes this trip so exciting for them.
BINI’s Impact on the Global Stage
BINI’s inclusion in KCON LA is more than just a performance; it symbolizes the rising influence of P-pop on the global stage. Frances emphasized the perfect timing of BINI’s rise, coinciding with a renaissance of female acts in the music industry worldwide.

“BINI has put girl groups at the forefront of P-pop,” Frances said. “Their music is a blend of modern and nostalgic elements that resonate with a wide audience. They represent a piece of home for Filipinos everywhere, bringing a sense of familiarity and pride.”
She continued, “Seeing P-pop rise feels like rooting for your home team. I hope BINI’s appearance at KCON LA will showcase the power of Filipino fandoms and prove that P-pop is here to stay.”
A Celebration of P-Pop’s Unique Charm
Frances pointed out that P-pop stands out for its authenticity and relatability. “P-pop is more than just singing and dancing; it’s about sharing personal stories and experiences. It feels like you’re catching up with a friend or family member. There’s a level of vulnerability and openness that makes P-pop feel like home.”

She highlighted BINI’s song “Lagi” as an example of P-pop’s honesty and emotional depth. “P-pop promotes honesty through shared experiences. When artists talk about their lives and stories, it creates a genuine connection with the audience.”
Looking Ahead
As BINI prepares to take the stage at KCON LA, they are not only representing their group but also paving the way for future P-pop artists. Their journey signifies a promising future for P-pop, showcasing its unique charm and potential to captivate audiences worldwide. With their talent, authenticity, and the support of their dedicated blooms, BINI is set to make a lasting impact at KCON LA 2024. The world is ready to experience the BINIverse, and the girls are more than ready to shine.
